The Blues are Sky Super Rugby Aupiki champions once again, securing a historic third consecutive title with a thrilling 28-21 victory over Matatū in Christchurch.

In front of more than 10,000 passionate fans, the defending champions showed the resilience and belief that has defined their campaign, overcoming a fierce Matatū side with a dramatic match-winning try in the final moments.

With the scores locked at 21-21 after Matatū levelled the match in the 78th minute, the contest looked destined for extra time.

But the Blues refused to be denied. Winger Katelynn Vaha'akolo produced the decisive moment of the season, finishing brilliantly in the 80th minute to seal the championship and spark jubilant celebrations.

Blues captain Maiakawanakaulani Roos praised the character and determination of her side after securing the club's third straight crown.

“I am so proud of the team. We had our backs against the wall, but we never had a doubt. We supported each other, believed in one another, and knew we could get the job done with nothing to lose.”

Hooker Atlanta Lolohea was named Player of the Match after another outstanding performance. Lolohea opened the scoring for the Blues before adding her second try in the 70th minute, while producing a tireless display in both attack and defence to cap off an exceptional season.

The title marks another milestone for the Blues, who continue to set the benchmark in women’s rugby through their commitment, connection and championship-winning culture.

The Blues now turn their attention across the Tasman, where they will represent New Zealand in the 2026 Women's Super Rugby Championship.

They will take on the Super Rugby W champions, the NSW Waratahs, on Saturday 1 August at 7.30pm (NZT) in Sydney, with the match broadcast live on Sky Sport NZ.
