Taufa is a young Halfback out of Sacred Heart College and the Sacred Heart production line. Funaki was selected as part of the 2018 New Zealand Under 20s side along with his new team-mates Zarn Sullivan, Soane Vikena and Jacob Ratumaitavuki-Kneepkens.

A proud East Aucklander, Taufa joined the Blues on the back of two years in the Auckland NPC set up. A capable and quick halfback, with a mind for attack, Funaki was awarded his debut for the Blues in the 2023 season and provided excellent back up off the bench for Finlay Christie with Sam Nock out injured. Funaki has an eye for a gap and his running game and physical presence will no doubt keep Nock and Christie on their toes in the race for a halfback spot in the 2024 season.
