Maama, a star volleyball player, was a late arrival to the rugby scene. But this lady has ‘hops’ making her an exciting lock to watch.

It was a breakthrough season in 2022 for Maama who started most games at lock for the Auckland Storm.   

She got her first taste of nib Blues rugby in 2023 and was a dominant force in the lineout.   

No longer able to hide behind her rookie tag, Vaipulu was well and truly on the radar of opposition teams in 2024, playing in the majority of games for the nib Blues. 

She was impressive throughout the 2024 Aupiki campaign, continuing her upward trajectory and was ultimately rewarded with her first Black Ferns contract. 

She scored her first try for the Black Ferns against the USA in Hamilton and was again a member of the Black Ferns for the WXV tournament in Canada.
