PITA AHKI SET FOR BLUES HOMECOMING
The Blues are excited to announce the return of experienced midfielder Pita Ahki for the next two Super Rugby Pacific seasons.
It will be a homecoming for 33-year-old Ahki, who grew up in Auckland and began his professional career with the Blues in 2014, making 13 appearances before embarking on a successful European career with Toulouse.
During his time in France Ahki won five Top 14 championships and two European Rugby Champions Cup titles, cementing his reputation as a world-class competitor.
Having represented both New Zealand and Tonga at various levels, Ahki brings leadership, experience and a winning mentality to the Blues environment.
Ahki said he’s excited to bring his experience back home and wear the Blues jersey again.
“I’m really excited to be coming home, back to where my rugby journey first started. It means a lot to return with my family after our time in France and I’m looking forward to bringing those experiences with me and contributing on and off the field.”
Blues GM Rugby Murray Williams said Ahki’s return is a special moment for the club.
“Pita’s a world-class midfielder with immense experience in Europe, and he’s also one of our own who grew up in Auckland and started his professional journey here,” he said.
“To have him back in Blues colours bringing that leadership and winning mentality is exciting for our squad.”
Ahki will link up with the Blues squad during pre-season later this year.
