10 nib BLUES IN WORLD CUP SQUAD

The Black Ferns have officially named their squad for the 2025 Rugby World Cup, with 10 of our nib Blues wāhine earning selection.

Leading the way is first five-eighth and Black Ferns co-captain Ruahei Demant, who heads into her third Rugby World Cup.

In the midfield, Sylvia Brunt adds plenty of firepower. At just 21 years old, she has already earned 25 Test caps and become one of the most dangerous attacking threats in the game.

In the forwards, 23-year-old Maiakawanakaulani Roos continues to anchor the next generation of Black Ferns alongside dynamic loose forward Liana Mikaele-Tu’u and prop Awhina Tangen-Wainohu.

Portia Woodman-Wickliffe returns for another shot at World Cup glory. As one of the most iconic figures in women’s rugby, she brings a huge amount of experience and mana to the squad.

The squad also includes four nib Blues players who are set to make their Rugby World Cup debuts.

Prop Chryss Viliko brings strength and technical skills, making her key asset in the front row.

Hooker Atlanta Lolohea adds explosive running and pin-point lineout throwing to the table, having proven her impact throughout the season.

Braxton Sorensen-McGee, who burst onto the scene during this season’s Super Rugby Aupiki, earns a spot at just 18 years old, becoming one of the youngest players selected for a Rugby World Cup.

Katelyn Vahaakolo also adds her flair and finishing ability to the Black Ferns campaign.

The Black Ferns kick off their 2025 Rugby World Cup against Spain on Monday 25 August at 4:30am (NZT).
