BLUES KEEPING TABS ON NEXT GENERATION

Fifty promising rugby prospects were put through their paces in late November as part of the Blues Under 17 Development Camp.

The camp is designed to give aspiring young players an insight to a professional rugby environment and the chance to ask questions to understand the steps needed to chase a career in the sport.

The first of the two-day camp saw players and their parents introduced to the Blues club, its direction, vision and purpose as well information and education around High Performance rugby and the pathway for kids after finishing school.

Several Blues staff members delivered presentations to arm the young men for the future, including ‘Player Wellness & Balance’ (Rob Woodley), ‘Eating for Performance’ (Marcia Jerram) and Talent ID v Selection (Shane King).

There was also a physical testing element to the day with pleasing results produced by the group of fifty young men.

Day Two of the Camp will be held at Blues HQ in mid-January, where the focus will shift to be more rugby specific.

The youngsters will link up with the senior Blues squad and coaching staff to receive position specific advice as well as unit coaching.
